King Abdullah, PM Modi discuss ways to strengthen Jordan-India ties
According to a Royal Court statement, the King welcomed the visit as an important opportunity to explore new paths for economic collaboration across sectors including industry and information technology.
During the talks, attended by Prime Minister Jafar Hassan, the King highlighted the longstanding partnership between the two countries, spanning more than 75 years. He noted the importance of the cooperation agreements and memorandums of understanding set to be exchanged during the visit.
The King also spoke about the Jordan-India business forum scheduled for Tuesday in Amman, describing it as a platform to enhance trade cooperation, attract investment, and strengthen partnerships in key sectors.
Prime Minister Modi expressed gratitude for the warm reception, saying, “On behalf of 1.4 billion Indians, I express my heartfelt gratitude to you for the very warm welcome extended to me and my delegation.” He emphasized his commitment to deepening bilateral relations in areas such as trade, fertilizers, digital technology, and infrastructure.
Modi also praised King Abdullah’s role in regional affairs, particularly his positive efforts regarding developments in Gaza, highlighting the need to achieve peace and stability.
Discussions covered broader regional developments, the importance of respecting state sovereignty, and the need to step up humanitarian response in Gaza while implementing the ceasefire agreement.
On the sidelines of the visit, Jordan and India are set to sign several memorandums of understanding, covering renewable energy, water resource management, cultural exchange, cooperation in digital transformation, and a twinning agreement between the city of Petra and India’s Ellora Caves site.
The talks were attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Alaa Batayneh, Minister of Industry, Trade, and Supply Yarub Qudah, India’s Ambassador to Jordan Manish Chauhan, and the Indian delegation.
